Cluster Development Successes

The Puerto Rico TechnoEconomic Corridor is helping drive the various industrial segments of Puerto Rico’s economy by facilitating market and company driven clusters, encouraging economies of scale, innovation, competitiveness and economic development. Major recent accomplishments include:
  1. PRTEC is continuously facilitating and working with existing clusters, clusters in development and other Tech Corridors, in and out of Puerto Rico.
  2. Competitive data, latest cluster organizing data, and industry segment data is constantly presented to all involved in advisory role.
  3. Clusters have addressed issues collectively (power, logistics, tourism, waste, infrastructure, supply chain opportunities) with improved communications between clusters, government and industries.
  4. Growing interest and enthusiasm is evident, as shown by the fact that new clusters are forming, as is the case with the new Medical Devices Southwest Cluster.
  5. Cluster members are constantly assisting companies moving into area, thus enabling the economic development of the region.
  6. Several Clusters are involved in research projects in conjunction with Academia. Most research is focused on Pharmaceutical, Biotech and Information Technology areas.
  7. PRTEC is working closely with a number of entities interested in the sustainable development of Puerto Rico. Among these entities are: the Center for Economic and Environmental Partnership; the Environmental Business Association; Environmental Technology Group; Yale University, Luis Munoz Marin Foundation, and others.
  8. Cluster members have achieved economies of scale through common services and have worked together in many projects to meet production needs.
  9. PRTEC has participated actively in the development and deployment of Tourism initiatives for the west coast of Puerto Rico, including Paradores West Coast Plan; Training Tourism Workforce through Work Incentive Act Programs, Puerto Rico Tourism Company’s Porta del Sol Worldwide Marketing Campaign; Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association Allied Committee for increasing hotel purchases to local businesses.
